Join the NDP
You have the option of joining either federal or provincial NDP party. Membership in one automatically gives you membership in both parties.
As a member you can play a full part in your local riding association. This includes attending or choosing who attends conventions, drafting and submitting policy resolutions at the riding association level, or assisting in the operation of other riding association functions.
As a member you can vote for the candidate who will represent the party during either a federal or provincial election. When a leadership convention is called, only paid up party members can vote for the person who will lead the party.
There are 2 types of membership, annual and sustaining:
Annual membership is $25.00 or $5.00 for those not gainfully employed and renews every march.
Sustaining members pay their membership via monthly contributions through auto withdrawal from either a chequing account or credit card. This amount can be as low as $5.00 /month.
Provincial vs Federal membership:
While you can join either the Provincial or Federal NDP and participate in both, please consider joining the provincial NDP for the following reasons:
- Provincial memberships are eligible for political tax credits (75% of the amount that you donate up to $300.00) while federal memberships are not.
- The provincial party is carrying a large debt load due to the last election and does not benefit from a publicly funded election campaign like the federal party. So membership revenue is needed to help pay for the day to day operations of the provincial party.
